‘Buy Malaysia 2022’ Campaign Is Bringing Homegrown Brands To The Mainstream

By continuing to provide a platform for local homegrown brands to extend their reach to customers across the country, Lotus’s Malaysia strives to foster a sense of pride and patriotism among Malaysian consumers towards locally made goods.

Lotus’s Malaysia President Kenneth Chuah explains that the retailer remains committed to supporting and promoting local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through vigorous business-to-business (B2B) programmes and aims on making products produced by local brands the #1 choice among consumers in the country.

As a retailer, we have confidence in the capabilities and qualities of our SME partners. This is evident as 90% of over 3,000 Lotus’s Own-Brand items are sourced and manufactured locally and many have become our customers’ all-time favourites.

And by working closely with agencies like the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (MDTCA), the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry (MAFI), and the Halal Development Corporation (HDC), Lotus’s has successfully put local manufacturers on consumers’ maps.

The Ministry expresses its appreciation to Lotus’s Malaysia as one of the foreign-based retailers willing to cooperate in making this campaign a success. In five years, this collaboration has produced a positive impact on the development of SMEs in Malaysia.

In conjunction with the ‘Buy Malaysia 2022’ campaign, Lotus’s is partnering up with a total of 95 SMEs as well as five organisations including non-governmental organisations (NGO), social enterprises and a textile recycling partner to promote their products and cause at Lotus’s stores nationwide till the end of the year.

Putting Malaysian brands on the mainstream

TRP got a chance to chat with some of the representatives of local SMEs and NGOs who are taking part in this year’s campaign and found that they are elated at the opportunity given by Lotus’s to showcase what they have to offer Malaysian consumers.

According to Aizzuddin Rusli, a representative from NFA Technologies Sdn. Bhd., programs hosted by Lotus’s provide them with a valuable and direct way to get in touch with local consumers.

Mismis Toothpaste is all natural and locally made. We join every time Lotus’s hosts such campaigns because it provides us with great exposure. Little by little, the campaigns helps us connect with customers and create awareness. We don’t get the same kind of crowd anywhere else.

Meanwhile, Independent Pet Adoption Network Malaysia founder, Sherrina Krishnan, applauded Lotus’s efforts to bring the country’s NGOs and social welfare programs to the mainstream.

People have always been kind and generous to support our efforts. So we made Malaysia’s first ever Cat Inspiration Book filled with pictures of rescued and rehomed animals. I applaud what they’ve done. I think it’s the first step toward inclusivity, and the fact that Lotus’s has put us on the front lines of a big campaign means that there is no separation between business and NGOs, it should all be sustainable regardless

In keeping true to the #KitakanJiran spirit, Lotus’s contributed vouchers worth RM500 to NGOs participating in this year’s Buy Malaysia campaign in support of the good work done by the social enterprises.

Together with MDTCA and HDC, Lotus’s also awarded several notable SMEs with the title of 2022’s best performing and most notable enterprises.

Making Malaysian-made, Malaysia’s #1 choice

This year, Lotus’s hopes to increase the marketability of homegrown brands by providing consumers with the chance to sample some of the fantastic products made right here in Malaysia, by our very own talented Malaysians.

Together with the Buy Malaysia 2022 campaign, Lotus’s will also be hosting the ‘Fiesta Nusantara Bersama Lotus’s’ event which showcases 80 local entrepreneurs from across the country to promote their quality and affordable delicacies, arts and crafts, accessories, and much, much more directly to consumers at four of its outlets from now till the end of 2022:

  • Lotus’s Ampang
  • Lotus’s Shah Alam
  • Lotus’s Rawang
  • Lotus’s Semenyih

Malaysians would also be happy knowing that there are already over 800 Malaysian-made products, including some 400 certified-Halal goods, available on shelves at all 64 Lotus’s stores nationwide.
